Local Talent Taking Centre Stage!

While you shop and chomp away at the mindful MARKETPLACE, Green is the New Black is proud to showcase 8 of Singapore’s local acts at the STAGE. From 12-noon to 5:00pm, these bands will serenade us to their acoustics sounds and original beats, with each set lasting 30 minutes. Meet the 8 acts below!

First up at 12-noon, Us the Hippies made up of a self-described musical yogi and a hippie musician will be kicking off the STAGE. The duo loves changing up songs and plays acoustic beats of old jazz blues.

The Pudgy Busker, Lai Zi Jie will next be serenading us with his acoustic tunes from 12:40pm onwards. A regular fixture in front of The Cathay, Lai Zi started a You Tube channel more than a year ago with a cover of Kit Chan’s Home.

From 1:20pm, Gerald Koh will be performing his first live set ever! A big supporter of living a more conscientious lifestyle, he hopes to make a positive impact through awareness in health, music and veganism.

Marcus Makes Music will take the stage at 2pm. A versatile performer, expect Marcus to croon us to our favourite covers of different genres from jazz to 90’s classics. Marcus also writes and plays original material, and uses music as a gateway to express the inner heart, which is often hidden and concealed. This one man show, Marcus performs with his trusty Martin guitar.

With a penchant for folk tunes, Stanley Ho plays from 2:40pm. Stanley writes and sings mellow and melancholically about life in Singapore inspired by his everyday experiences in Singapore and of his loved ones. He has played at songwriter showcase Versus with The Diarists, Baybeat 2016, Local People Market and other small pop-up shows.

Catchy pop anthems and soulful ballads of love in a mixture of Korean and English, Yamsu will perform from 3:20pm. The trio made up of Beomjin, Jung Jae and Euna met and started the band in SMU, where all 3 are currently students. Yamsu meaning a ‘distorted yes’ likes to make it fun with a dose of craziness. They performed for SMU events Unplugged and Starry Nite.

Taking the stage at 4pm, Jayden Chia will perform tunes of pop, rock and acoustic beats. He first performed at the tender age of 15 to bring joy and happiness by sharing stories and experiences through his music.

Basement will close the STAGE at 4:40pm. This duo, made up of Syahir and Issac who met in NTU will perform their unique blend of music.

Green is the New Black is happening on October 22nd at Hotel Jen Tanglin from 9am to 6pm with a pool after-party to follow from 5pm onwards. The marketplace, stage and pool party is FREE for the public. Workshops and talks require a ticketed pass.
